Exshaw flood victims still waiting for temporary homes

Some displaced flood victims in Exshaw west of Calgary who were expecting to move into their temporary homes this week are being told they will have to wait another week.

Residents in the community west of Calgary are still not in temporary homes promised by officials.

The move-in date wasoriginallyset forSept. 1, but after two missed deadlinesthe trailers are still not ready and ithas been pushed back toOct.4.

Behind theLafargecement plant inExshawsits one of the most iconic homes of the Alberta flood. It's best known for a tree that sticks right through the front wall, like itfrozemid-action.

The house belongs to LaurenDavisonand ChrisManahanwho were forced outin the middle of the night during the flood.

"The neighbours woke us up at 1:30 in the morning banging on the door," saidDavison.

Within an hourthe driveway and front yard were gone,but the inside was hit the worstwith mud.

The couple spent the next two monthsliving in a campgroundinside their friend'sRVcooking outdoorsand using the camp showers.

"It really wasn't called camping,it's called surviving,"saidManahan.

Finallythey saidenough is enough, so the Municipal District of Big Hornmoved them to a hotelin Canmore with the promise of a temporary homesoon.

They say addingto the stressis not getting any answers from the provinceabout what will happen to their homeor even if they'll be able to rebuildor sell.
