Feeling frugal this Family Day? Try some free activities in Calgary this weekend

Hoping to have some fun but save some fundsthis long weekend? The City of Calgary has offered up a few Family Day deals citywide.

City offering ways for Calgarians to save on activities over the long weekend

Hoping to have some fun but save some fundsthis long weekend?

From sports to saving on parking, the City of Calgaryhas offered up some Family Day dealsthat you can enjoy all around town.

During the holiday Monday, from 1 to 2:15 p.m., bring your own skates and hit these rinks, free of charge:

  • Ernie Starr Arena (4808 14th Ave.S.E.).
  • Frank McCool Arena (1900 Lake Bonavista Dr.S.E.)
  • Murray Copot Arena (6727 Centre St.N.W.)
  • Optimist Arenas (5020 26th Ave.S.W.)

And if winter sports aren't really your thing, warm up for summertime by taking a complementary dip in these pools from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m.:

  • Acadia Aquatic and Fitness Centre (9009 Fairmount Dr.S.E.)
  • Bob Bahan Aquatic and Fitness Centre (4812 14th Ave.S.E.)
  • Thornhill Aquatic and Recreation Centre (6715 Centre St. N.W.)

Or maybe you've been itching to try a new activitybut never really knew where to start.

Sport Calgary's All Sport One City program is being offered at various locations around the city the entire long weekend.Kids, seniors, adults and families can register for an opportunity to learn and play.

Some of the activities include trying your hand at martial arts, playing horseshoes or disc golf, andeven relaxing in a yoga class.

What about planning your commute?

Calgary Transit will be operating on typical Sunday hoursthis Family Day, so be sure to plan ahead before heading out and about.

For motorists,on-street parking is free in the city's ParkPlus zones all day on Feb. 19.
