Beddington Heights stabbings were a random attack, police say

Police believe that a man who stabbed two residents of aBeddington Heights homeon the weekendhad chosen theaddress randomly.

Emergency crews were called toBeddington Drive N.E.around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police chased the suspect into a nearby park with the help of a helicopter, but he took his own life before he could be taken into custody.

Two people in the house,IrvinLandherr, in hismid-60s,and his daughter KaraLandherr, in her 30s, suffered stab wounds.

Theywere taken to hospital and are now in stable condition.

Police say the man's identity will not be released.

There was a third person in the home at the time who was uninjured, according to police.

Earlier on Sunday there had beenanother call of a suspicious man knocking on someone's door. It'snot clear if the incidents are related.
