Calgary police are warning drivers to be cautious after a female motorist was stopped by two men impersonating police officers.

Calgary police are warning drivers to be cautiousafter a female motorist was stopped by two men impersonating police officers.

The woman was driving along 101 Street S.W. near Old Banff Coach Road onFeb. 16when a small white car with a flashing blue light pulled up behind her, police said Monday.

She pulled over, assuming that the car was a police vehicle. No one approached her for several minutes so she began inching her car forward. At that point, two men walked up to her car and began banging on the window.

The woman got scared and drove off. She reported the incident to police after making it home safely.

Calgary police said drivers are obligated to pull over when approached by a police vehicle that's flashing its lights, but reminded the public that:

  • Marked CPS vehicles are always equipped with red and blue lights on top.
  • The majority of police traffic stops aredone in marked vehicles or in unmarked vehicles driven by police officers dressed in full uniform.
  • On rare occasions, undercover officers wearing plain clothes will activate red lights inside the grill, or in the interior of unmarked vehicles.
  • If a driver is not sure about a vehicle that's pulling them over, they should call 911.
  • Police officers usually approach the vehicle in a reasonably prompt fashion and identify themselves as members of the force.

Police have only a vague description of two men who were both wearing hoodies. They are looking for a white, four-door car, possibly a Pontiac Sunfire.
