Harvest Hills residents concerned about golf course future

Some residents of Harvest Hills say they were "blindsided" by the sale of thecommunity's golf course to a developer.

Cedarglen Homessent a letter to the residents informing them of the sale and indicating theredevelopment of the land could include new residential propertiesnews has disappointed local residents.

Stuart Cantrill and his wife moved into a home backing on the golf course two years ago.

"An established golf course, you know large trees, you just never ever thought that this would be something that could potentially be redeveloped," he said.

Rose Alibhai has lived in the neighbourhood for eight years.

"It will totally destroy the environment and the whole neighbourhood pretty much," she said.

No rezoning application has been made yet and the developer is holding a series of open houses this weekat the Harvest Hills Golf Course clubhouseto hear residents' views on the potential redevelopment of the golf course.

Company official Chris Ollenberger said many things must happen before the project moves ahead. "Nobody has made any decisions. It's ultimately up to city council, he said.

The developer says the golf course will remainin operation next summer.
