Harvie Passage on the Bow River near the Calgary Zoo will be closed to paddlers for a couple years.

The three channels were drastically altered during last year's flood and are not safe to use.

Mark Taylor fromthe Alberta White Water Association says the actual reconstruction won't take two years to complete.

"The biggest problem is finding the resources, the money and then working around the environment fish window.," said Taylor."It's a pretty big river so you know being able to dam off a section at the side of it to be able to go work in it without any water is a lot to consider."

Taylor hopes that when Harvie Passage is rebuilt there's an opportunity to improve what was there before.
