Calgary house fire significantly damages northeast home

A fire Monday morning in the city's northeast significantly damaged one house and melted siding on a neighbouring home.

The Calgary Fire Department received multiple calls around 10:45 a.m. Monday about a house fire on Tara Cove Way N.E., spokesperson CarolHenke said.

"When the fire crew left the station they saw a large plume of smoke and immediately upgraded the fire to a second alarm to get more resources rolling right away," she said.

Crews arrived to find a two-storey house fully engulfed in flames, with flames impinging on a neighbouring house.

Melted siding on neighbouring home

Firefighters were able to limit the damage to the neighbouring house to melted siding, Henke said.

It's not known if anyonewas in the house where the fire started, but the residents inside houses on either side evacuated before firefighters arrived.

"Our crews went defensive right away, just because there was significant flames and then a partial collapse and it's just too dangerous to go inside at that point," Henke said.

"Right now we're putting out hot spots and then when it is safe to go inside they will do a search."
