Calgary identity-theft ring busted, three men sought on warrants

Calgary police have arrested a 32-year-old Calgary manand issued arrest warrants for three other peoplebelieved to be involved in a credit card and identity-theft ring.

The charges come after a two-month investigation that led policeto execute search warrants last week at two homes, one in the 100 block ofPenworthGreen S.E. and the other in the 300 block of 10 Street N.W.

Numerous items were seized in those raids including a credit card embosser, magnetic strip encoder, card printer, card blanks, counterfeit and modified credit cards, personal mail and documents belonging to numerous victims, as well as a half-kilogram of marijuana and $2,500 in cash.

Investigators believe the suspects were acquiring and using victims' credit histories to apply for bank accounts and credit cards, then applying to Canada Post for mail re-directs from the victims' addresses to a post office box they controlled.

Police allege the suspects would thenuse the fraudulently obtained credit cards tomake high-end purchases,including electronics and car parts.

Police are still looking for another Calgary man, 32-year-old Jeff Carmell Charles, in connection with the case.

He is described as a black male, about five feet nine inches tall and weighing 185 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and a slim build. No photos of Charles were available.

Also wanted on warrants are 30-year-old Montreal resident Paul Seguin and 19-year-old Jack-Samuel Mesadieux of Brooklyn, N.Y.
