No major health issues found with 96 dogs removed from Lethbridge home

Veterinarians were giving 96 dogs removed from a Lethbridge, Alta. a more thorough check Monday after initial examinations found no major health issues.

The dogs were removed from a home in the Varsity Village area of Lethbridge about 200 kilometres south of Calgary by the Alberta SPCA and Lethbridge Animal Services on Friday and are being cared for at an area animal shelter.

Two of the younger dogs are a large breed and the rest are small breeds or mixes. They are of varying ages.

AlbertaSPCAspokesperson Roland Linessays despitethe lack of major health concerns, veterinarians expect the more thorough checks on Monday will uncover some chronic conditions.

The dogswill remain at the shelter as part of a 10-day hold period andLines says the owner can apply to have the animals returned during that time.If they don't,the dogs will become property of the SPCA, which will then find shelters to have themadopted.

Lines says the resident of the home was co-operativeand officials aren'tsure yet if charges will be laid.
