A 35-year-old Lethbridge police officer remains in hospital after an accident involving a gun at a firing range during training.

Just after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, police were at the range when an officer's firearm fired into a table.

A second officer standing nearby was hit in the upper left leg by what the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT)says is believed to be a table fragment.

Fellow officers immediately provided first aid to the wounded man, who was taken to hospital.

A bullet was recovered from a nearby wall.

ASIRT is investigating.
