Lethbridge weapons cache leads to 28 charges

Lethbridge police have charged a 46-year-old man with 28 criminal offences after pulling "numerous weapons, ammunition and suspected explosive devices" inside his residence.

Further charges could be laid pending test results by military

Lethbridge police have charged a 46-year-old man with 28 criminal offences after pulling "numerous weapons, ammunition and suspected explosive devices" inside his residence.

Officers checked the north-endhouse after taking theman into custody for uttering threats and a firearms complaint.

Once officers realized what was inside, they called in the city's explosive disposal unit and the Department of National Defence as well as criminal investigators to initiate a search warrant.

Police found a small arsenal inside, including machine guns one dating from the First World War as well as rifles, handguns, ammunition,gas masks and a small amount of drugs.

According to police, several other items from the house were taken by the Department of National Defence and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team for testing. Further charges could be laid pending the results.
