Calgary construction crews will soon be back in Victoria Park as part of the preparations for the Green Line LRT.

The intersection of Olympic Way (Fourth Street S.E.)and 12th Avenue will be closed as crews install new underground utilities to replace those that have to be removed for a new tunnel through the core.

And work on the 17th Avenue extension through the Stampede grounds, the intersection of Corral Trail, Stampede Trail and Olympic Way (in front of the Scotiabank Saddledome) will be closed August through September.

Wendy Tynan, city spokespersonfor the Green Line project, says detours will be in place and access to businesses will be maintained but work couldtake several months to complete along 12th Avenue.

"As you can appreciate, in a large construction project like this, until they actually get at the work, we won't know specifically. But we are anticipating it could be up to four months that the intersection would be closed," she said.

Tynan says other underground projects needed for the culture and entertainment district will be completed during the closures.
