Manyshots brothers face delay in sexual assault sentencing

More delays are expected in the sentencing of two brothers who admitted to kidnapping and sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Calgary in 2014.

More delays are expected in the sentencing of two brothers who admitted to kidnapping and sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Calgary in 2014.

The 17-year-old victim was grabbed from a northeast bus stop and endured more than eight hours of assaults, both near the bus stop and at the home of the assailants, before she escaped.

On Tuesday, the Crown asked to read the victim impact statement aloud in court on behalf of the victim, but the judge rejected that requestciting concerns over a publication ban on the girl's identity.

The Crown also asked for lengthy jail terms for both Corey and Cody Manyshots, who pleaded guilty to the crimes in October.

The violence of the attack and death threats were cited as aggravating factors.

But the defence told court it nowhas a new report about fetal alcohol spectrumdisorder that it would like to present.

It also wants the judge to further explore whether Corey was on his medication for schizophrenia at the time of the attack.

On Tuesday afternoon, thejudge allowed the defence more time to examine those issues

Lawyers will be back in courton Aug.3 to determine when the hearing will continue.
