Day-long armed Morley standoff that evacuated schools ends in 4 arrests

A tense situation at a Morley, Alta., residence that turned into a day-long armed standoff with shots fired and schools evacuated, has ended in the arrest of four people, police said in a release late Thursday.

Update: On Saturday, RCMPannounced that two men were charged following the standoff. SedrickMarian Powderface, 33, faces 18 charges, and Sidney Dion Wesley-Beaver, 24, faces five charges. Both suspects are set to appear in court on Jan. 30 in Cochrane.

A tense situation at a Morley, Alta., residence that turned into a day-long armed standoff with shots fired and schools evacuated, ended in the arrest of four people, police said in a release late Thursday.

Cochrane RCMP responded to a home in the community which is about 55 kilometres west of Calgaryjust before 10 a.m. Thursday.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team got involved when the incident escalated into an armed and barricaded situation.

"Two nearby schools were notified and steps were undertaken to evacuate students. During the day-long standoff, gunshots were heard coming from inside the suspect residence," police said.

Two men and two women, both from Morley, surrendered and were taken into custody.

Police say there were no injuries and charges are pending.
