QEII crash kills 1, injures others north of Bowden

One person is dead and multiple people are injured following a crash on Highway 2 north of Bowden.

Northbound lanes closed while emergency crews respond and RCMP investigate

RCMP said the northbound lanes of the QEII north of Bowden will remain closed for an undetermined period of time. (CBC)

One person is dead and multiple people are injured following a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 2 north of Bowden, Alta.

Innisfail RCMP said the accident happened around 9:28 a.m. on Tuesday morning and involved an SUV, a minivanand a semi-truck.

EMS said one woman in her 20s, who was in the SUV,was declared dead at the scene.

Three other women in their 20s, all occupants of theSUV, were transported to different hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. One was taken to Foothills Hospital by air ambulance.

The sole occupant of the minivan, a woman in her 40s, was taken to the Innisfail Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Northbound lanes, approximately two kilometres north of Bowden, are closed and traffic is being diverted to Highway 2A.

Southbound lanes are open except for the inside lane near the crash site.

RCMP said travel will be impacted and the northbound lanes will remain closed for an "indefinite" period of time.
