Josh Brolin to star in Outer Range TV show which will film in Calgary this year

Josh Brolin willbe heading to Calgary this spring to shoot a new Amazon show.

The Oscar-nominated actor, known for movies like The Goonies, the Avengers series, and No Country for Old Men, will both star in and executive-produce Outer Range, Deadline has reported.

The first season is scheduledto shoot in Calgary and the surrounding areafrom April 29 to Sept. 2, according to the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) Alberta.

The show, by playwright Brian Watkins, will be produced by Brad Pitt's company Plan B Entertainment for Amazon Studios.

It will follow a rancher, fighting for his land and family, who discovers a mystery at the edge of Wyoming's wilderness, according to its IMDB synopsis.

Alberta film industry workers have voiced concerns over the past few months that the provincial government is insufficiently supporting the industry.

Alberta has attracted many big-budget productions over the years,including recent filmsInterstellar,The Revenant,War for the Planet of the Apes, andan upcoming sequel toGhostbusters.

Film and television productions that shoot in Alberta bring with them significant sums of cash and generate thousands of jobs. Productions in Alberta created 5,350 direct and spinoff full-time jobs in 2017.

The largest year on record to date came in 2013, whenInterstellarand the first season of FX seriesFargofilmed in the area, drawing a total value of $274 million.

Netflix's zombie series Black Summer is currently filming its second season in Calgary and the surrounding area, as is Syfysupernatural western Wynonna Earp.

Brolin is next set to appear in Denis Villeneuve's reimaginingof Dune.
