Man involved in Pincher Creek standoff facing more firearms charges

A man accused of being at the centre of a police standoff in Pincher Creek, Alta. in February is now facing a string of other firearms-related charges. The town was virtually locked down by the RCMP on Feb. 8 following reports of a man in a house with a gun.

Dewey Todd Starzyk, 53, was charged with careless use of a firearm and failing to comply with conditions.

Police in Pincher Creek about 100 kilometres west of Lethbridgesaid at the time a caller reported hearing shots, and shots were fired at responding officers.

Starzyk's lawyer, Sean Fagan, disputed that, saying the initial report of shots being fired was made up, and the sound officers heard was a door being slammed.

Starzykwas released on bail.

Now, the RCMP say Starzyk was arrested again this past weekend.

He is now also charged with robbery with a firerarm, uttering death threats and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Cpl.Jeff Feist saidthese charges relate to alleged incidents that happened before the Pincher Creek standoff in February.

Feist said Starzyk allegedly "fired a round off in the house and demanded drugs from a person in the residence" at the time.

Starzyk has been remanded in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
