Saddle Ridge stabbing in northeast Calgary leaves woman in serious condition

A woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition Tuesday after being stabbed multiple times in what police are describing as a domestic incident.

911 call came from young boy who fled the house

A woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition Tuesday after being stabbed multiple times in what police are describing as a domestic incident.

There was alarge police presence outside a home in the 200 block of SaddlemeadGreen N.E., after a young boy called 911 around 8:30 a.m.

The boy had fled the house where the attack took place and went to get help from a neighbour, EMS spokesman Stuart Brideaux said.

A woman in her 30s was taken to Foothills hospital in critical, potentially life-threatening condition with multiple stab wounds. She was later upgraded to serious condition.

"I was so in shock," saidneighbourElie Muzira, wholooked out her window this morning to see EMS responders performing CPR on the woman.

Muzira didn't know the family personally, but saidshe believes a man and woman live in the neighbouring home together with several children.

Kids witness violence

Police confirm a young boy from the house called 911 andMuzira saidshe saw police escort another child a wide-eyed toddler out of the home.

"I don'tthink he understandswhat happened,"she said.

Police won't confirm whether the man responsible for the attack was the children's father, in order to protect the privacy of the family.

Duty inspector Ryan Ayliffe saidthis was not the first time police have responded to a domestic incident at that home.

Police don't have anyone in custody, but saidthey expect to arrest the suspect soon.It is not believed the attack was random.

Police briefly locked down thenearby Light of Christ School while they secured the area.
