More than 200 tickets doled out in first 6 hours of latest snow parking ban

In the first day of its latest snow route parking ban, the Calgary Parking Authority says it issued 224 tickets between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

City says it expects parking ban to last until Wednesday morning

In the first day of the city's latest snow route parking ban, the Calgary Parking Authority says it issued224 tickets between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

This is the third time in recent weeks the city has ordered a parking ban due to heavy snowfall.

While the city says the bans help crews to clear snow from Calgary roads more efficiently, many Calgarians even those who aren't getting ticketed are questioning whether the parking ban is effective.

Jesse Fraser, who lives in Renfrew, moved his car before the parking restrictions came into effect, but says he saw a snowplow come through his neighbourhood hours before the snow route ban was even announced.

"The timing of the snow ban and the snow plowing never really line up," Fraser said."If they do, we miss it, or the grader just comes through with a plow and a sander and it just goes one strip down the middle and it's not adequate."

Calgary resident Kevin Giddingssaid despite his neighbours moving their cars during frigid weather, they didn't see any result for their troubles.

"There was two other parking bans and in those cases they never plowed our streets. So for six days during some very severe cold weather we were all moved off the road but the city plows never showed up," Giddingssaid.

"I was just looking for some common sense to be applied if they're going to be ticketing."

The city said Saturday it expects the snow ban to remain in effect for 72 hours.
