Calgary drug house shuttered by Alberta Sheriffs

A drug housein the southeast Calgary community of Southview was boarded up and fenced off by Alberta Sheriffs on Friday.

The homeat2000 Cottonwood Cres. S.E., first came to the attention of the Safer Communities and Neighbourhood unit (SCAN)in January. Sheriffs launched an investigation of the "problem property"in response to complaints about drug activity.

A release by the Alberta government Friday said Calgary police responded to more than 30 incidents at the home in the last two years, including a fatal drug overdose.

The SCAN unit got a court order to close the house for 90 days and it was boarded up with the locks changed Friday.

The owners of the property have been placed under strict conditions that forbidthem from having visitors or tenants for two years without approval from SCAN investigators.They are also not allowed to return to the property for 90 days.

The property will be monitored for two years.
