Parents of children attending a public Spanish program have been told they're moving but to a school closer than was first announced.

The Spanish bilingual program currently shares space with French immersion classes at Westgate School at 150 Westminster Drive S.W.

But both programs are so popular theyve been running out of room.

Last year the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) said the Spanish students would be moved to Eugene Coste ElementarySchool at 10 Hillgrove Crescent S.W., which is 15 kilometres away inHaysboro.

But after several parents appealed, the board saidit would look at other options.

The CBE has now decided to move the students to Glenmeadows School at 4931 Grove Hill Road S.W. in 2015, which is just a few kilometres south of their present school.

The school currently houses the Calgary Arts Academy charter school, which is being moved into the Weston Bakery building on the Stampede grounds once it is renovated.

If Glenmeadows School isnt ready by September 2015, the Spanish program might move temporarily to the Viscount Bennett Centre at Richmond Road and Crowchild Trail S.W.

The board also announced Tuesday that West Springs School at 8999 Wentworth Avenue S.W. will remain a Kingergarten to Grade 6 school for the 2014-15 school year.

In September 2015, Grade 5 students will move to Rosscarrock School at 1406 40th Street S.W. Current Grade 4 students will be able to complete Grade 6 at the school, the board said.

By 2016 all new Grade 5 and 6 students will be designated to attend Rosscarrock School.

Kindergarten enrolment at West Springs School will be capped at about 100 students each year using the CBE lottery process to determine admission, the board said.
