Spray parks in Calgary will remain open a little bit longer even as the city's outdoor pools close.

While outdoor pools in Calgary will close this weekend, two spray parks will remain open until next week and possibly longer.

The jets will stay on at Prairie Winds and South Glenmore spray parks to extend the summer that almost wasn't. The two splash parks will remain open until the end of next week and, if the weather stays nice, officials could decide to keep them open even longer.

"What we will do is we will assess the weather again late next week and determine whether or not we can leave them open," said Heather Hastie with Calgary's Parks department. "It's weather-dependant."

It's been a rough year for the city's outdoor pools cool weather kept many swimmers away from thewater for much of the season and then the flood wiped out the Stanley Park pool.

Prior to the flood, the Stanley Park pool received a $900,000 renovation and added a new wading pool. It was onlyopen for about a week when the flood waters shut it down for the rest of the season.

Other pools were unaffected and it was business as usual.

However, city staff say the pools will not remain open even if the weather stays nice.

The pools are largely staffed by university students on summer vacation and the majority of them will be back at school next week.
