Qisong Zhou, arrested in 'unprovoked' double stabbing in Huntington Hills, lived in home with victims: police

Police have arrested a 50-year-old man in the double stabbing of a man and woman at a house in Huntington Hills Monday, after tips from the public that someone who resembled the suspect was walking along Deerfoot Trail.

Police have arrested a 50-year-old suspect after a man and woman were seriously wounded in a stabbing at a house in northeast Calgary on Monday morning.

QisongZhouwho also lived in the homehas been charged withattemptedmurder,assault with a weapon andtwo counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerouspurpose.

"At this point, it's still early in the investigation, but it appears the attack was unprovoked,"Det.TomBainsaid.

Police arrested him around 4 p.m.Tuesday after a tip from the public that he was walking along Deerfoot Trail near Beddington Trail, he added.

Earlier that day,Zhou was captured on CCTVwithdrawing money from aRoyal Bank in Beddington Heights, in northeast Calgary.

Police say it's too early to establish a motive for the attack, but investigators are speaking to the victims as they recover in hospital.

"He did know the victims. The relationship was not domestic in nature," Bain said.

Police and EMS were called tothe home in the 200 block of Huntcroft Road N.E. at about 7:45 a.m. Monday, where they found aman in life-threatening condition and awoman in serious condition.

There were twoother adults and three children in the house at the time of the stabbing. None were injured.

One of the children was asleep and the other two were "in a separate suite" so they did not witness the attack, Bain said on Tuesday.

Prior to this,Zhouhadno criminal record in Alberta. A court date has not yet been set.

Neighbours told CBC News they heard shouting in the house before police arrived, but were shocked by the violence in thequiet neighbourhood.

"We just don't seem to have that type of trouble, so it's the first I've seen. I've been here since 1971," said neighbour Bill Tanner on Monday.
