On Tuesday, the court also heard fromone ofPaxton's neighbours, who testified that she heard fighting, screaming and banging daily from the apartment the accused shared with his former roommate.

Marcia Hayes said she called 911 twice about the noise.

Paxton, 31, is charged with forcible confinement, aggravated assault and sexual assault of a 27-year-old man between December 2008 and April 2010 in Calgary and Regina.

When the torture victim was dropped off at a Regina hospital in April 2010 he weighed only 87 pounds, had several broken bones and his face had been mutilated.

Hayes said she called 911 once in January 2009 and again in April 2009. The 911 tapes were played in court.

The first time Hayes called, she had heard fighting. The second time, she was moving out of the basement suite with her boyfriend.

She told court that Paxton and three other men threatened them with a cane, bear spray and what looked like pipes.

"I've been scared to go back in there for the longest time. They absolutely scare the crap out of me," Hayes testified.

The trial is slated to last five weeks.

Paxton's former roommate is expected to take the stand in mid-October.
