Strathmore woman's suspicious death under investigation

RCMP investigators attended thescene of a suspected homicide at a fourplex in Strathmore, Alta., Tuesday morning.

Police responded to a 911 call from a womanshortly after 1 a.m. MT.

When officers arrived at the residence in the 100 block of Sixth Avenue shewas found dead, according to police.

EMS spokesman StuartBrideaux said paramedics wereasked by RCMP to attend around1:30 a.m. MT but were then called down.

RCMP major crimes and identification sections worked through the night at the scene, officials said. RCMP have identified at least one person of interest but are not calling that person a suspect at this point.

Police saythey do not believe the public is at risk.

Staff Sgt. Kevin Reilly says incidentslike this arerarein Strathmore.

"I've been at this detachment for just over eight years, this is only the second," he said.

The house remains surrounded by police tape and a K-9team was brought in to help with the investigation.

Neighbours say they didn't know the woman well but believed she may have just broken up with a man who used to live there.

"A man and a woman, they come and go, I've waved but they don't always wave back," said Ashley Reina. "I wouldn't say they're the happiest, friendliest people but we all have our things."

Officials are not releasing the woman's identity until her family has been notified.

Strathmore is about 55 kilometres east of Calgary.
