Sundre woman charged in dog attack arrested

A woman wanted in connection to adog attack in Sundre, Alta.,is in police custodyFriday morning.

Rita Phillip, 57,was arrested by Calgary police at anortheast casinoThursday night.

A warranthad beenissued for her arrestearlier this week after RCMP said she had fledthe scene of a dog attack over the weekend.

"The woman had entered a local casinoin the 1400 block of Meridian Road northeast," said Duty Insp. Paul Stacey.

"When we sent members there to investigate we worked with the casino security to locate the womanwithin the premise. Ourmembers moved in and wearrested her without incident."

Last Saturday, a 26-year-old Calgarywoman suffered critical injuries to her arms and face when she was attacked by two "pitbull-type"dogs while visitinga mobile home inSundre, which islocated 115 kilometres northwest of Calgary.

Police said her injuries were so severe that first responders thought she was dead.

She was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, butofficials say sheis now expected to recover.

One of the dogs was put down at the scene because it acted aggressively towards RCMP officers. The other is in quarantine.
