Calgary nightclub shooting not terrorism, police say as suspects appear in court

Calgary police are still searching for the third suspect of a shooting at a packed nightclub early Sunday morning in the city's southwest. The other suspects appeared in court today, and one of the men is planning to seek bail.

Calgary police are still searching for the third suspect of a shooting at a packed nightclub early Sunday morning in the city's southwest.

Two other suspects appeared in court Tuesdayand one of themis planning to seek bail, according to his lawyer.

Early on Sunday morning, a man got out of a car in front of Ten X Nightclub, walked to the front door with a gun and shot three timesinto the bar,according to a witness. Police say two other men were waiting in a nearby car.

"The shooter was immediately tackled by bar staff, and shortly after joined by CPS Gang Suppression Team members who were nearby and heard the shots," said police in a release."The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene along with the alleged shooter."

Police have chargedElmiand Salad with attempted murder, along with numerous other offences, in connection with the incidenton10thAvenue S.W. thatsent a 38-year-old manto hospital in stable conditionwithinjuries to his torso.

3rd suspect sought

Officers are now looking for a third suspect who was detained at the scene, butwas able to escape whenpolice arrested two other suspects.

The man is described as black, roughly five-feet-10-inches tall, and between 20- and 30-years-old. He waswearing white pants and a beige-coloured sweater.

Calgary police have not released a motive for the shooting but in a statement said they have ruled out terrorism, likely in response to social media reaction to the arrests.

Officials also say it's not connectedto "several other acts of violence in the city over the past several months."

Saladreceived a conditional discharge in 2011 for drugpossession, butfailed to complete his community service hours and was charged with a breachof probation, according to court records.

Elmihas no prior convictions in Alberta.

An agent for defence lawyerToniiRoulstonappeared forElmi, asking the judge to put the matter over for a few days as she awaits disclosure.

It's unclear if Salad has a lawyer yet. A court-appointed lawyer appeared on his behalf today.

Both men are scheduled to make court appearances on Friday,at which time a bail hearing may be scheduled forElmi.
