Puggle found safe after being stolen from Calgary pet store

One of two puppies stolen from a Calgary pet store has been found safe.

On Saturday, Top Dog staff came in to work to find the store's front window and a kennel window had been smashed.

A Boston terrier and a puggle(part beagle, part pug) were missing.

Both were microchipped and worth thousands of dollars.

"We're very pleased to have our sweet girl back," said Marion Church, co-owner of Top Dog.

Church said the store received a call about the puggle's whereaboutsfrom Willow Park Animal Clinic.

A clinic stafferand a member of the public found the puppy Wednesday in a soft-sided carrier in a motel parking lot nearMacleodTrailand Southland Drive S.E., she said.

The clinic contacted Top Dog afterstaffscanned the puppy for a microchip.

"Greed and selfishness motivated these people, but Boston terriers are quite rare," Church said. "They're harder to find."

She said she suspects thieves targeted the Boston terrier and took the puggle the puppies wereroommates out of opportunistic desire.

"She's an adorable little monkey. She's a very standard, very healthy little puggle and she was likely just excited to go with her friend," Church said.

The store has never had an incident like this in 10 years of operating, Church said, adding the owners have talked with their landlord about upgrading security cameras.
