Trans-Canada Highway closures expected for blasting after rock slide near Field, B.C.

Parks Canada says motorists can still expect major delays on the Trans-Canada Highway nearField, B.C., afteritwas completely closed last week by a rock slide.

The section of road, located 16 kilometres west ofField,opened to single-lane alternating traffic afew days later.

Parks Canada says that will continue with periodic delays of up to one hour between 8a.m. and 8p.m. as crews work to stabilize the rock face.

"Longer road closures will be required for rock blasting in the coming days in order to ...prepare the highway for two-way traffic to flow at a date anticipated for later this week," said officials in a release.

2-way traffic expected later this week

Crews do not expect two-way traffic until at least Wednesday evening or perhaps even later this week.

Drivers are encouraged to take alternative routes on Highway 95 and Highway 93S through Kootenay National Park, and can get the latest updates on Twitter by following Drive BC.

Up to 45-minute delays are also expected further west on the highway as rock scaling gets underway 30 kilometreseastof Revelstoke from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Wednesday.
