Alberta Parks authorities issued a warning Sunday after a cougar followed a hiker and his leashed dog for an extended period of time near Canmore.

The cougar warning is in place until further notice on Meander Trail, Ridge Traverse Trail and the Montane Trail West section of Johnny's Trail in Canmore Provincial Park.

People are advised to be observant, make consistent noise, travel in a tight group and to keep dogs and children close at all times while in the areas.
