Parts of Alberta could be hit with some extreme weather as Environment Canada issues multiple warnings and watches late Friday.

A tornado warning for Airdrie, Cochrane, Didsbury, Olds and Sundre was downgraded to severe thunderstorm just before 11 p.m. MT.

"Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible," the agency said in a release.

"This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches."

Severe thunderstorm watchesare in place forCaroline, Innisfail, Ponoka, Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House and Stettler.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors," Environment Canada says.

There are heat warnings in effect for northeastern parts of the province as well.
