Wolf manoeuvres through traffic to take down young bighorn on Alberta highway

A Calgary woman captured a rare event on video of a wolf taking downa young bighorn sheepon a highway in the Alberta Rockies.

Christine Campbell caught the preyversus predator event on May 27 while driving west onHighway 40in Kananaskis, just before the entrance toPeter Lougheed Provincial Park.

The wolf is seenpursuing a herd ofbighorn along theleft shoulder.It then forcesasmall sheep to crossthe highway.

"I was thinking it's kind of strange for them to be running. Andthen, right as I was thinking that the wolf just jutted out to the side."

As it chasesitsprey across the highway, thewolfnarrowly missesavehicle. After taking down its kill on the side of the road it drags itup a hill into the forest.

Campbell said she felt "sad" for the sheep, but didn't interfere.

"The wolf needs to eat too and maybe he hadwolf cubs to feed."
