Edmonton is having another smoky summer. According to the national weather agency, the city has recorded the third-most smoke hours on record and there are weeks left in wildfire season.

At a time when Canada is vastly expanding its child-care system, and just eight months after a major E. coli outbreak in Calgary child-care centres, an Alberta Health Services analysis shows the province is lagging in its rate of daycare inspections, falling short of its guideline of at least one health and safetyinspectionper year at each of the province's licensed daycare centres.

Provincial agriculture inspectors and RCMP say the slaughter and sale of uninspected meat is on the rise in Alberta, raising concerns about the safety of food consumed across the province.
