Alberta firefighters are closely watching a British Columbia wildfire threatening to spreadinto the province.

The fire is burning in Tumbler Ridge, about halfway between Prince George and Grande Prairie. With the weather forecast predicting hot, windy weather, the worry is that the flames will migrate east.

We've got a team put together of fire experts, they're looking at the fire, said Geoffrey Driscoll, fire information officer with the Alberta government.

Right now, they're keeping an eye on it. But if it crosses over, then that team will go on to the fire and they're gonna assess it and decide exactly how many firefighters and how they're gonna fight it.

The 5,000-hectare fire has already forced the evacuation of 200 people from two work camps in the area.

Eighty firefighters, as well as aircraft and heavy equipment, are being used to fight the fire, which was caused by a lightning strike.

Fire crews are already engaged in battling a number of different fires along the border, as well as a large wildfire 200 km north of Slave Lake.
