E-learning may be future for rural schools

Education ministers from across western Canada met in Edmonton Saturday to talk about stretching already-tight budgets from urban to rural schools.

This is a particular challenge in western Canada, where the ministers said gaps between education in urban and rural communities is notable, often resulting in lower performance levels in rural and aboriginal schools.

As CBCs Laura Osman learned, provincial ministers are considering expanding e-learning as part of the rural equity action plan.

Alberta Education Minister Jeff Johnson says separate school districts may even be able to share costs associated with setting up e-learning systems.
