Morinvilleresidents have voted to allow the town to continue to use photo radar and red light cameras to deter speeders.

While 525 residentsvotedto ban photo radar,654 votedagainst in defeating the initiative.

The bedroom community north of Edmonton decided topollits residentsafter 900people signed a petition.

Photo radar currently brings in about $350,000eachyear tothe community and many people believe it's become a cash cowrather than a deterrent to speeders.

If the vote had succeeded, photo radar, laser and red light cameras would have beenbannedinMorinvillefor the next threeyears.

StrathconaCounty, east of Edmonton, banned photo radartwo years ago.
