Escaped killer on loose again

Police are looking for a manconvicted ofmanslaughterafter he escaped froma minimum-securityfacility in Edmonton.

Michael Bearboy, 42, serving a seven-year sentence for a 2006 homicide, was found missing during the evening count Sunday at the Stan Daniels Healing Centre, the Correctional Service of Canada said.

Staff immediately contacted police and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Bearboy has escaped custody before, fleeing from an Edmonton halfway house on Feb. 26, 2011.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued, and Bearboy was found more than a week later by RCMP officers from three detachments, plus a dog team.

At that time, Bearboy was captured on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation innorthern Saskatchewan,a five-hour drive from Edmonton. The First Nation was whereBearboy shot and killed a 36-year-old man in 2006.

Mayor Larry Heon of nearby Loon Lake, Sask., said word about Bearboy's latest escape has travelled quickly in his village.

"You can pretty much tell when a stranger comes to town and everybody will be more diligent now that they know that he's on the loose again," Heon told CBC News on Monday.

Heon added that he is confident Bearboy would be caught if he comes back to the area.

"Our local RCMP keep track of what's going on and, you know, they usually keep us pretty well-informed, and they watch the local hangouts," he said.

Bearboy is described asfive feet,eight inches tall, weighing 237pounds with brown eyes and black hair and a tattoo of a cat on his left upper arm. He also has aa scar and burns on his left forearm.

The Correctional Service is asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call police.
