Gaelic football comes to Edmonton

Its not football, it's not rugby and its not quite soccer either.

This weekend in Edmonton dozens of children were learning how to play Gaelic football, an Irish sport that involves bouncing, hand-passing andkicking a ball down a field and scoring goals.

Rachel Flynn is one of the organizers of the Gaelic Athletic Association Cul Camp, hosted in Edmonton for the first time. The camp, the first one in western Canada, is for children between the ages of six and 13.

Flynn said the 45 participants have been enjoying the sport.

A lot of the children here would have played Gaelic sports back in Ireland and when they moved here they couldnt do that, she said.

Its an opportunity for them to still learn their Irish culture. Its great because some of them have brought some of their Canadian friends to join in who have no experience with the sport, so its very fun.

The camp will wrap up next weekend.
