Calgary's zoo has finalized plans to move three female elephants to a zoo in the U.S. That move prompted us to check in on our lone elephant Lucy.

Calgary's decision to relocate its four elephants will not change Edmonton's plan for their lone elephantLucy.

By next spring, Lucy will be the only elephant left in the provinceand one of the most northern elephants in the world.

Calgary Zoo officials said the decision to move the animals was made last April because the island that houses the zoo cannot accommodate a large herd, and elephant welfare is better served by being part of a larger social group.

Lucys caregivers say moving her would be too dangerous, but as CBCs Tashauna Reid reports, the decision to keep her here remains controversial.
