Man injured when powerboat collides with Edmonton Queen

A man was taken away in an ambulance Thursday afternoon after his powerboat collided with the Edmonton Queen riverboat in the North Saskatchewan River.

Witnesses told CBC News the man was 'stunting' in the area around the riverboat, when he lost control of the boat and slammed into the back of the larger craft. The boater apparently hit his head when the collision occurred.

There is no word on his injuries. The man, who appeared to be in his 40s, was accompanied in the boat by two women, who were not injured.

The Edmonton Queen was dockedat Rafter's Landing on the south side of the river, near downtown, when it was hit.

More than 90 people were on the riverboat at the time, as it was preparing for a cruise. No one on board was hurt.

There was no visible damage to the riverboat and the powerboat was towed away by a fire department river rescue crew.
