Province commits $1M to anti-gang projects

The province is putting $1 million towards fighting gangs, particularly in rural, remote and aboriginal communities.

Alberta Premier Alison Redford announced the money Monday at the Alberta Gang Reduction Training Symposium in Edmonton.

Communities with gang problems can apply for a share of the funding, which will come from Alberta's Civil Forfeiture Office, which seizes and sells property obtained through criminal activity.

Redford said priority will be given to projects that directly impact youth most at risk of joining gangs.
