Semi jackknife shuts Yellowhead Trail down to 1 lane

The havoc on Edmonton's streetscaused by a deluge of snow continued Sunday morning causing traffic snarls.

Many on their way to Thanksgiving celebrations this Sunday morning are about to add some time to their commute after a semi that jackknifed on YellowheadTrail shut the westbound side of the freeway down to one lane.

EPS said the accident happened at 8:15 a.m.near 170th Street and there were no reported injuries.

This comes one day after the snow caused anarchy in the city as drivers slipped and slid all over the roads.

From midnight on Saturday to 10 a.m. on Sunday, EPS said there were two hit and runs, 13 crashes that caused property damage and three that caused injuries.

Between 6 p.m. Friday, and 5 p.m.Saturdayas local roads became heavy with sleetofficers were called to respond to a rash of motor vehicle collisions throughout the city, including seven where people were hurt.

In under 24 hours,Edmonton Policeresponded to 77collisionsas the city was walloped with its first snowfall of the season.Damage was reported in another 58collisions.

Police also responded to 12hit-and-runs withinthe same time frame.

Police are reminding drivers to exercise caution, and adjust their speed tothe slick conditions.

Pedestrians are also reminded to be careful, as it may take longer for vehicles to come to a stop on icy roads.
