Homicide detectives investigate woman's death north of downtown Edmonton

Friends are remembering Rose Knife as a good and generous woman with many friends.

Knifewasfatallystabbed Thursday morning just north of downtown Edmonton.

Homicide detectives are investigating Knife'sdeath assuspicious and were still on scene at 100th Street and 105A AvenueThursday afternoon.

Police tape blocked off an alley and parking lotnext to the nearby George Spady Centre where policefound Knifeinjured and lying on the ground. She died in hospital.

Staff at Boyle street said Knife's death is hard on everyone including many people at The George SpadyCentre whowitnessed the altercationand many who consider the community to be their"street family,the ones who lookout for them and kept them safe."

"Sometimes those people are the only people they have, so a loss is like losing a family member," saidIan Mathieson, Boyle Street's director of operations. "And sadly it's a tragedy and a trauma that the folks that we work with aren't unfamiliar with."

Support services are being offered to clients and staff in need.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday morning.

Police confirmed a second stabbing in the area Thursday evening. Shortly before 7 p.m., a man in his fifties was stabbed near Boyle Street Community Services. He was taken to hospital but police could not comment on the extent of his injuries.
