Warning lifted as flood waters recede in Westlock

A flood warning for the town of Westlock issued Monday evening due to heavy rainfall was lifted just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

"Flood waters in the town have receded and the risk of flooding is reduced based on current conditions," Alberta Emergency Alert reported on its website.

"There are still some areas that are under water and will diminish with time."

Westlock, population 4,800, is 90 kilometres north of Edmonton.

People in the townwere being advised to continue following instructions from emergency workers, to obey barricades ad signs, and to not drive into flooded areas because of hidden hazards under flood waters.

The flood warning had been issued at 7:09 p.m. Monday.

Pictures posted on social media showed parking lots filled with water.

Westlock Countywas under a heavy rain warning Monday. Environment Canada said the area could see total rainfall ranging from 50 to 75 millimetres by Tuesday morning.

Other areas were also affected by the bad weather.
