Woman shot dead at Edmonton LRT station

A 23-year-woman is dead after a shooting at Edmonton's Stadium LRT station Friday night.

A 23-year-old woman is dead after a shooting at Edmonton's Stadium LRT station Friday night.

Acting Insp. Ken Hykawy said police responded to reports of gunshots at the station, near 112 Avenue and 85 Street, at about 10:20 p.m. MT.

He said officers foundthe young woman on the ground near the 112 Avenue entrance with "significant head trauma." She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say it's believed the woman was involved in a brief conversation or confrontation with a man when he pulled out a gun and shot her. Thevictimcollapsed, while the suspect fled the area.

The suspectis described as amale between 16 and 21 years old, about five feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 160 pounds. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a baseball cap.

Hykawy said there were at least six witnessesand there is surveillance video at the station that will be seized as evidence.

He said police believe they have identified the woman, but her name will not be released until relatives havebeen notified.
