Crews battle fire at new housing development in Burlington deemed suspicious by police

Police and firefighters were called to respond to a fire at a new housing development on Lodi Road in Burlington the second in two days.

Police and fire fighters were called to respond to a fire at a new housing development on Lodi Road in Burlington.

Police and firefighters were called to respond to a fire, police say, at a new housing development on Lodi Road in Burlington the second in two days.

Halton police said it's consideredsuspicious and the criminal investigations bureau and Office of the Fire Marshal are investigating.

Police had responded to a fire at the same address two days earlier, Halton policesaid in a statement. That fire caused minor damage and wasalso been deemed suspicious.

StaffSgt. Jeff Foster said policereceived a call at about 4:15 a.m. on Monday morning and that the latestfire was happening at a development with "new builds."

He said no one has been injured.

Burlington Fire Chief Dan Vanderleliesaid that when firefighters arrived on scene "we had two fully-involved units with a third starting and a fourth to the west starting as well."

He said "the one to the west was occupied. Crews immediately evacuated the family."

He said there were between 25 to 35 firefighters on scene.

He added thatall the homes were evacuated on the street as a precaution and that three of the homes were under construction.

Lodi Road is in the area of Walkers Line and Dundas Street.Vanderleliesaid crews would be on scene for another few hours.

BurlingtonTransit buses have been brought to scene to provide shelter for evacuatedresidents.

Police said they're looking for witnesses who noticed suspicious activity, or have dash cam footage from the area of Walkers Line and Dundas Street, or near the GO stop and 407 carpool lot west of the intersection.
