Driver tossed cat out a car window on Highway 406, authorities say

Authorities are looking for a driver they say threw a cat out a window on a 400 series highway Tuesday.

Lincoln County Humane Society says the driver of a Nissan apparently threw acat onto Highway 406 in Niagara, where the speed limit is100 km/h. The animal landed on the median.

A witness was heading southbound when he saw the cat thrown from the driver's side window, and stopped to help. A humane society officer arrived on scene and took the cat to a St. Catharines veterinary clinic.

The cat, now named Ellie, is on pain medication, with surgery planned for later today.

The incident happened between Beaverdams Road and Highway 20 in Thorold. Investigators are looking for a four-door grey van or crossover vehiclethat looks like the 2010 model.

This is the second incident of a cat being thrown out a window this week. On Sunday, someone threw a cat out a window just outside Dresden, Ont. The cat was euthanized because of its injuries.
