4 new COVID-19 outbreaks declared as Hamilton reports 93rd death

Four new COVID-19 outbreaks were declared in Hamilton Wednesday, along with one more death, bringing the total number of people in the city who had the virusand died to 93.

A woman in her mid-80s who lived at St. Joseph's Villa died on Nov. 30, according to public health.

Hamilton reported25 new cases Wednesday, after recording a record-breaking 108 the day before.

A public health spokesperson said there were no data issues either today or yesterday, stressing the message from the city's medical officer of health that numbers will vary day-to-day, so the seven-day average is key.

The city's website showed the seven-day moving average was 68 per day as of Wednesday.

Hamilton has seen3,291 cases over the course of the pandemic (both probable and confirmed).

Of those, 546 are active and 2,638 resolved.

A total of 234 people with thevirus have been hospitalized so far, including 26 who were in hospital Wednesday.

Twenty-two outbreaks are ongoing in Hamilton, the largest of which has infected 87 people connected to Chartwell Willowgrove long-term care residence in Ancaster.

New outbreaks declared on Dec. 1 include Canadian Electrical Raceways Inc. where five staff members are infected, 3 for 1 Glasses where four staff members have the virus,La Garderie le Petit Navirewith two staff cases andHeritage Green Nursing Home where one staff member has tested positive.

Haldimand Norfolk

Three more cases of COVID-19 were reported in Haldimand and Norfolk on Tuesday.

The counties have tallied 664 positive cases throughout the pandemic. Of those, 44 are active and 583 recovered.

Thirty-two deaths are considered COVID-related.

Brant

There are 66 active cases of COVID-19 in Brantford and Brant County Wednesday.

The area has recorded 523 confirmed cases so far, with 452 that are resolved.

Eleven of those cases were reported within the past 24 hours.

Six people with the virus are hospitalized and five have died.

Halton

The number of cases in the HaltonRegion rose by 61 Wednesday for a total of 3,790 during the pandemic.

Public health data shows 760 cases are active and 2,964 are recovered. Sixty-six people have died.

Eighteen of those deaths have been in Burlington.

The city saw 16 more cases Wednesday.

Niagara

Sixteen outbreaks in Niagara were ongoing Wednesday.

The region has reported 2,181 cases, of which 209 are active and 1,887 are recovered.

Eighty-five people have died.
