Diana Panton, Arkells, Dirty Nil and more up for Juno awards

A bevy of Hamilton acts have been nominated for the 2017 Juno Awards.

Arkells are leading the way with two nominations, for rock album of the year and group of the year on the back of the band's latest effort, Morning Report.

The band is currently on tour with British folk-punk artist Frank Turner, with a sold out show at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton coming this Friday.

Hamilton rock band Monster Truck was also nominated for rock album of the year.

Alternative/punk band The Dirty Nil was nominated for breakthrough group of the year. The Dundas trio has toured with both Alexisonfire and Billy Talent this year, and is playing the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Feb. 27.

Two-time Juno Award winner and jazz pianist David Braid also garnered a nomination for instrumental album of the year for Flow.

Diana Panton, who won a Juno when the awards were hosted in Hamilton in 2015, is up for children's album of the year this year for I Believe in Little Things.

Rapper Drake, R&B singer The Weeknd and singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes claimed five Juno nominations each, while singer Alessia Cara and the late Leonard Cohen followed up with four nods.

The Tragically Hip also earned multiple nominations, including for group of the year and rock album of the year for Man Machine Poem.

The annual awards show is in Ottawa this year. A week of festivities will precede the live awards broadcast on April 2.
