A Hamilton man is facing dangerous driving charges after allegedly running away from a crash in the east end Sunday and abandoning his injured passengers inside the vehicle.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a crash at Queenston Road East and Kenora Avenue shortly after 3 a.m.

According to a police news release, a black 2008 Maserati was going at a high rate of speed on Queenston when it struck a Mercedes Benz SUV being driven by a 24-year-old Hamilton man.

The Maserati then left the road, slammed into two hydro poles, and then hit the SUV a second time, police say.

"The driver of the Maserati fled the area on foot leaving his injured passengers behind," Hamilton police said in a statement.

All three passengers in the Maserati were taken to hospital with broken bones, police say. The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene.

Police then identified the driver and arrested him. He was charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
